Our Story

Lucas Hobbs, a childhood cancer survivor and up-and-coming chef, converted a school bus into a mobile restaurant to serve the cause of children battling illness in Minnesota. Since going into remission for his cancer eight years ago, Lucas has fed thousands throughout the United States, including three Children’s Hospitals nationwide: Minnesota, Tennessee, and North Carolina.

Additionally, Chef Lucas has raised over $160,000 for numerous charities with his Bustaurant chef table dinners, cooking with and learning from chefs like Andrew Zimmern, Food Network and TruTV Star Justin Southerland, local Chef Yia Vang, and the legendary Carolina BBQ Pitmaster Ed Mitchell.

Furthermore, the Minnesota Vikings and U.S. Bank Stadium named Lucas a “Hometown Hero” in 2017. More recently, Chef Lucas launched the Chef Lucas Pizza food truck and has served his pizzas to communities all throughout the metro. He was named a “10 under 20” food hero in the United States by Hormel Foods and Harvard University and was given the Don Shelby Service Award for his work with The Ronald McDonald House, Upper Midwest.

Lucas graduated from culinary school in December of 2021, and in May 2023 he was featured on Good Morning America highlighting his small business, the Chef Lucas Pizza food truck, and was given $10,000 “live on the show” which he is using to help fund his business and pursue his entrepreneurial goals. Together with his dad Matt, a Delta Air Lines Captain, Lucas is excited to be a part of the community with his new venture, Woody’s Canteen!
